Kolkata: Attacks on Leftists in West Bengal
would be the focus of CPI-M's protest against such incidents
that are taking place countrywide, party general secretary
Prakash Karat said during the two-day extended state committee
meeting which ended here on Sunday.
Left Front Chairman Biman Bose quoted Karat as having
told the state committee meeting, "Since the last Lok Sabha
election, attacks are being perpetrated against Leftists
countrywide and West Bengal has been made the centre of such
attacks."
Briefing the press, Bose quoted Karat as saying the
party's movement and activity would be strengthened nationwide
and more and more joint Left movement would be organised.
"Class struggle has to be built up through constant
political activities to strengthen class unity and foil any
bid to weaken the Left movement," Bose quoted Karat as telling
the state committee meeting.
An all-India convention would be held by the Left parties
in New Delhi on March 12, Karat told the meeting.
Attending the party's extended State Committee meeting,
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said the
state would give priority to fight against anarchy and
lawlessness by creating awareness among people.
Bhattacharjee believed that regional autonomy in three
hill districts alone could help resolve the Darjeeling issue.
"We have to handle this issue with patience," he said.
