Kolkata: The CPM on Tuesday gagged all Left constituents, ministers and leaders in West Bengal from speaking against the policies in public.
Biman Bose, chairman of the Left Front committee in West Bengal, advised Left organisations at a press conference to make responsible statements.
“Left leaders can’t speak in public against party policies,” Bose said. He added that any critical remarks should be made only after thorough discussions within the party.
The gag order comes amidst pressure from coalition partners on the CPI(M), which is heading West Bengal's ruling Left Front government, to discuss the issue of Assembly polls ahead of schedule in the year 2011.
Minor LF constituent West Bengal Socialist Party and Fisheries Minister Kironmoy Nanda had recently spoken in favour of snap polls.
Forward Bloc, the second biggest constituent in the nine-party Left Front coalition, also said since the demand has been raised by WBSP it should be discussed in the Left Front.
