Aurangabad: Three armed dacoits on Sunday afternoon looted a goldsmith's shop, assaulted the owner, tied up the servant and decamped with 1.5 kilograms of gold and cash Rs 20,000.

The incident has panicked the citizens since the dacoity took place despite there was police presence all around the locality for the two-day state-level conference of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) here.

The Police Commissioner Srikant Sawarkar said that around 12:45 today, three dacoits armed with revolver and knives entered the Bora Jewellers shop in Vivekananad Nagar near Pundliknagar area in Cidco N-4 building under the pretext of purchasing gold. One of them took out the revolver and threatened the owner. The other assailant tied up the hands of the servant in the shop with his (the servant's) shirt.

Then, they collected gold ornaments weighing 1.5 kgs and fled the scene. Police said that there were no customers in the shop when the dacoity took place as it was after noon time.

Mukundwadi police has registered a case and PI Shamrao Gaikwad and his team is on hunt for the dacoits. Sources said that the trio came on a red colour two-wheeler.
