New Delhi: A 55-year-old debt-ridden
businessman was today found charred to death in a blazing car
under mysterious circumstances in the national capital, police
said.
The charred body of Devender Ahuja was recovered from
his blazing car on an isolated stretch near Guru Gobind Singh
College in Maurya Enclave area of north-west Delhi at around
12:45 pm, a senior police official said.
Ahuja was staying with his family in a rented
accommodation in Pitampura. He had sold his house in Adarsh
Nagar due to loss in business six months ago.
He left his residence to purchase an LPG cylinder at
around 11 am and first picked up his brother-in-law R K Arya,
the official said adding they went to Shakurpur and bought the
cylinder.
Ahuja dropped Arya back home and then proceeded to his
house when the incident took place.
An empty gas cylinder was recovered from the back seat
of his vehicle after officials succeeded in dousing the
flames.
"The rear side of Ahuja's body being less burnt and
his wallet being found intact suggest that he could have set
himself ablaze," a senior police official said and added they
were not ruling out anything as investigations were not over
yet.
Ahuja suffered financial losses in his business and
was depressed. "Though no suicide note has been found, we are
not ruling out foul play or suicide and investigations are
on," he added.
