New Delhi: To ensure safety and security of women in the city, the Delhi Government will soon launch a mass awareness campaign in which police, urban planners, transport authorities, NGOs and community groups will be involved.
Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said the decision to launch the campaign has been taken to check increasing incidents of violence against women in the city.
Through the 'Safe Delhi Initiative', government aims to work towards creating a city that is safe and accessible for women and other venerable groups, Walia told during a function here.
She said Delhi will take the leadership in creating a model to address women's safety in a holistic way and a strategic framework would be worked out to involve various stake holders.
"We will create mass awareness campaigns for safety and security of women in which police, urban planners, service providers, transport authorities, community groups, resident groups and NGOs will be involved for sensitising the society," she said.
Urban planning needs to incorporate gender as an element in order to design more inclusive cities, she said adding public transport will have to be safe and efficient to ensure protection of women.
She said Government will involve RWAs and market trade associations to make the campaign a success.
