New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today asked
the city government and the Delhi Jal Board(DJB) not to pass
the buck to each other and provide basic amenities to
residents of Sainik Farm.
The Court's directive came on the allegation levelled by
ex-service men, who have been staying in Sainik Farm, that DJB
has failed to supply water to them for the past several years.
A Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Madan B Lokur
and Justice Mukta Gupta sought a detailed affidavit by next
Tuesday, the Bench said the government officials were not
discharging their duties, as a result of which genuine
residents have been suffering.
In a PIL, the residents, who claimed to have been allotted
plots in Sainik Farm under government's rehabilitation scheme,
said DJB was not supplying water under the pretext that the
colony is unauthorised.
They also alleged government is not taking any decision
to regularise the colony and despite their representation to
set up tube wells for residents' convenience, the water
supplying body is not taking any step.
The petitioners contended four places have been
identified for tube wells but now DJB says government is not
giving any clearance for setting them up.
The people who have been staying there illegally have
been provided with pipe water, tube well and other alternative
arrangements but they were deprived of from basic amenities,
they contended.
