New Delhi: A Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday demanded constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to go into alleged illegal mining by Obulapuram Company in Andhra Pradesh.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, M V Mysura Reddy said that the state government has granted a lease of 180 acres to Obulapuram Mining Company and Anantapuram Mining Corporation and added that both companies were doing illegal mining.

"They are doing the mining work illegally without any mining lease, without any environmental clearance or without any forest clearance. Materials worth thousand of crores have been transported to China," he alleged.

Reddy said a JPC should be constituted to probe into the irregular sanctioning of the mining leases, the irregular mining in Obulapuram and in the entire Bellary Reserve Forest Area in AP and Thumati and Vittalapuram villages in Karnataka.

He was supported by Left members Brinda Karat and Prasanta Chatterjee (both CPI-M) and D Raja (CPI).
