Hyderabad: Reacting to a suggestion by a
Congress MLA that Telangana and Rayalaseema regions should be
together in case of division of Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana
Joint Action Committee (JAC) today said that leaders opposing
separate Telangana have now realised that the integrated state
has become irrelevant.
"One thing that has become clear is that the demand for
keeping Andhra Pradesh has become irrelevant. That is why
leaders of non-Telangana regions are now coming up with
alternative ideas," JAC Convener C Kodandaram told reporters.
He said the JAC would continue its fight for separate
Telangana and it is for leaders of other regions to think of
alternatives to united Andhra Pradesh.
Senior Congress MLA J C Diwakar Reddy had yesterday said
that it is in the best interest of Rayalaseema if Andhra
Pradesh remained united.
He, however, suggested Rayalaseema should be clubbed with
Telangana if a split becomes inevitable.
"Rayalaseema would be the worst affected if the state is
split. If division is inevitable, we (Rayalaseema) should be
with Telangana. We are not going to benefit in any way if we
are with coastal Andhra," he said at a meeting of legislators
from Rayalaseema yesterday.
Meanwhile, Kodandaram said the demand for resignations of
public representatives to mount pressure on the Centre for
immediate formation of Telangana applied to TRS president K
Chandrasekhar Rao as well.
He was responding to the criticism of TDP leaders that
Kodandaram did not press for the resignation of Chandrasekhar
Rao while demanding the resignations of TDP and Congress MLAs
and MPs.
To a query, Kodandaram said except Congress all parties
are still part of the JAC though TDP leaders criticised him
for criticising N Chandrababu Naidu.
