Gandhinagar: Dr Kamla was Friday sworn in as
the Governor of Gujarat.
The eighty-two-year-old was sworn in by the acting Chief
Justice of Gujarat High Court M S Shah in a formal ceremony
attended by her family members, besides Congress leaders and
MLAs from her home state Rajasthan.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi was also present at the
function.
Dr Kamla, who was Governor of Tripura, was appointed as
state's Governor last week by the President Pratibha Patil.
She would take charge from Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir
who was holding the additional charge following the demise of
Gujarat Governor-designate D N Dwivedi, who died in August
this year.
Dr Kamla was first woman deputy chief minister and also
the first woman minister of Rajasthan.
She was named 'Woman of the Year' in 2001 by the American
Biographical Institute.
Dr Kamala is the second woman Governor of the state.
Earlier, in 1978 Sharda Mukherjee had taken oath as the first
woman Governor of the state.
