Guwahati: The opposition Asom Gana Parishad
(AGP) on Tuesday demanded dropping of seven ministers, allegedly
involved in the multi-crore North Cachar Hills Autonomous
Council scam, from the Assam cabinet.
"For an impartial CBI probe, the seven ministers in the
Tarun Gogoi ministry should be dropped," the Leader of the
Opposition and Asom Gana Parishad President Chandra Mohan
Patowary told reporters here.
The AGP president said his party MLAs disrupted the
governor's address today as it did not mention the scam
rocking the state now.
"Besides, the governor's speech does not mention any new
policy to attract investment and ease the price rise of
essential commodities," he said.
Meanwhile, AGP MLA and two-time former Chief Minister
Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said the chief minister had no moral
right to continue as his government "was virtually reduced to
minority with the entire opposition protesting the governor's
address".
A nexus of politicians and bureaucrats are alleged to
have swindled Rs 1,000 crores in Central funds intended for
the district’s development.
