New Delhi: Representatives of DTU students
who are to meet Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit tomorrow on the
issue of conversion of Delhi College of Engineering into the
Delhi Technical University, today said there are likely to
continue with their agitation.
The general body meeting of the students, also joined by
some parents, today met here to discuss their agitation over
conversion of Delhi College of Engineering to Delhi Technical
University and demand of removal of Vice Chancellor P B Sharma
and resolved to continue with the agitation.
However, the students leaders said they would again meet
to take a final stand on the issue before meeting Dikshit.
"We will sit for discussions one more time before meeting
Dikshit tomorrow. A general body meeting was called today in
which the students and even their parents vowed to continue
with the protest," said student leader Nitin Baraiya.
When asked why they have not taken a final decision on
the issue even after getting support of the students, he said,
"we will meet for another round to reply to the CM tomorrow."
However, a source said the agitation will continue till
the demands are met.
Nearly six representatives of the institute had yesterday
met Dikshit, who had said there would not be any going back on
the decision to make the DTU a state university. She had also
told the students to withdraw their agitation and promised
to look into their demands other than the removal of the VC
and changing the DTU status.
Dikshit had personally intervened in the matter yesterday
after the Board of Management meeting of the varsity on Friday
failed to find a concrete solution to the problem prevailing
in the institute for over a fortnight.
