Banka: Eight persons were killed and 25 others injured when a bus in which they were travelling in smashed into a roadside tree near Ghatour village in Bihar's Banka district today, police sources said.

The accident occurred at around 7 am when the driver of the vehicle on its way to Deoghar in Jharkhand from Bhagalpur in Bihar lost control over it, sources said.

The ill-fated bus smashed into a roadside tree and overturned, they said adding while five passengers died on the spot, three others succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital.

Of the injured admitted to hospitals, condition of five of them was stated to be serious.

Raising the issue, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra said the DTC buses have become "live bombs" in the past 15 days with six incidents of fire onboard the buses.

Several BJP leaders vociferously criticised the government for the incidents and even alleged huge corruption in procurement of the new fleet.

Unhappy with the reply of Lovely, the Opposition staged a walkout.
