Ghaziabad: A former Uttar Pradesh minister today refused to appear as a witness before a special CBI court in connection with the professor Kavita Rani murder case saying he was not concerned with the matter.
Mairazuddin Khan, through his advocate, informed the court that CBI falsely placed him in the witness list and he has nothing to do with the case.
CBI officials told the court that Khan was involved in a deal of Rs 35 lakh which was given by him to main accused in the case, Ravinder Predhan. They also produced a video clip which showed Khan with the deceased in Lucknow.
Kavita Rani, a professor of fine arts in Chaudhary Charan Singh university Meerut had disappeared on 22 October 2006 and her body could not be recovered. The CBI had filed
chargesheet against five accused.
The main accused was allegedly killed in Dasna district jail here in 2008.
Former ministers Babu Lal and Kiran Pal, former Vice Chancellor of the university R P Singh and Khan were interrogated by CBI in connection with the case and for their
alleged illicit relationship with Kavita
