Bhubaneswar: Passengers of the New Delhi- bound Purushottam Express from Puri were stranded for over ten hours today as an iron plate got entangled with the wheels of the train near Cuttack, railway officials said.

No one was, however, hurt as the super-fast train halted at a place between Nirgundi and Kendrapara Road railway stations, about 35 km from here, shortly after midnight when the iron plate got stuck, a senior East Coast Railway (ECoR) official said.

The train resumed its onward journey around 10 am today after four of its bogies affected by the entanglement were replaced to prevent damage and to accommodate about 280 passengers travelling in those coaches, he said.

Train traffic remained unaffected virtually as only the Garib Rath Express from Howrah was delayed by about four hours, he said, adding that no damage was caused to the track.

Efforts were being made to ascertain the circumstances in which the iron plate got entangled with the wheels of the train, officials said.
