Jalandhar: Holding Shiromani Gurudwara
Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Avtar Singh Makkar
responsible for allegedly firing by SGPC's Task Force in
Khanna Chamirana village in Gurdaspur district recently in
which two farmers were killed, All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha
(AIKMS) on Monday demanded immediate arrest of Makkar.
Sabha's National President Hardev Singh Sandhu said
that if action against the erring persons would not be taken
then AIKMS would launch an intensive agitation in all over
the state from November 12.
"The SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, Incharge task
force Kashmir Singh Bariar and SGPC secretary Amrik Singh
Shahpur should be arrested immediately while the arms used in
the incident should be confiscated failing which we will
announce agitation plans on November 12," Sandhu added.
He said that the SGPC task force was meant for
protecting Gurudwaras and not to get involved in taking
illegal possession of such lands. "The government should allot
the land to the farmers and announce compensation for affected
families," he added.
There was long-standing land dispute between the SGPC)
and some farmers, which took a gory turn on November three,
when a taskforce of the Sikh temporal body arrived to plough
the disputed fields.
Equipped with a favourable court order, the taskforce
members resorted to firing when the farmers, who had already
sown wheat in the fields, resisted the takeover and two
farmers died in the armed conflict and nine others sustained
injuries.
