Jaipur: At least fifteen people, including
Additional SP, were injured as a protest by Uttrakhand
Sangarsh Samiti demanding arrest of accused in a murder case
turned violent.
For fifteen minutes there was a pitched battle between
the protesters and cops as both side pelted stones on each
other, a police official said, adding we had to resort to
lathicharge to control them.
Five policemen were injured in the incident and the
condition of Additional SP Rajesh and SHO Ashok Nagar Bhomaram
is stated to be serious.
Some of the protesters hid themselves in the nearby BJP
office to save their lives, he added.
"22-year-old Babli was found dead under mysterious
circumstances on the National Highway near Chandwaji on March
11. We have filed an FIR with particular name of the accused
but no action has been taken so far," Shankardutt Joshi,
Sangarsh Samiti convenor, told reporters.
"We were peacefully holding the protest-rally towards CM
residence to submit a memorandum demanding arrest of murderer
whom the police is giving protection," Joshi added.
Meanwhile, SP-South Jose Mohan said the protesters had no
prior permission to hold the rally. "As police stopped them,
they pelted stones and clashed with the cops," Mohan said.
Twenty-five protesters have been rounded up for creating
unrest and indulging in violence, IGP B L Soni said.
