Kolkata: Suspected Maoists killed a former
CPI(M) member and triggered landmine blasts in Lalgarh
injuring two jawans of the joint forces on Sunday.
The body of Dinabandhu Soren, a former CPI(M) member
who was missing from his home in Dharampur since Saturday, was
found by the joint forces in the jungles of Kadamdiha in
Lalgarh, a senior district police officer said.
He said Dinabandhu was killed on suspicion of being a
police informer.
Two jawans of the joint security forces were injured when
the Left wing extremists exploded two landmines -- one at
Pirakata and the other at Maldiha in Lalgarh. The injured have
been rushed to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.
In another incident, the joint forces made lathicharge to
disperse a mob of nearly 800 people who came in a rally to
gherao the Belpahari police station. Ten persons were
arrested.
People's Committee Against Police Atrocities leader
Bibhutibhusan Mahato said they intended to gherao the police
station to protest against the police torture of its supporter
Khetramohon Singh resulting in his death.
Mahato said they would hold rallies, set up road blocks
and undertake fasts from tomorrow in the three districts of
West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura to demand withdrawal of
the joint forces.
