Thiruvananthapuram: As part of the Social
Security Mission programme, LDF government has decided to
extend free treatment to patients below 18 years, Kerala
Health Minister P K Sreemathi said today.
This benefit would be available to those admitted in the
general ward of five medical colleges, Regional Cancer
Centre and Malabar Cancer Centre, she said.
Government would bear the cost of operations and dialysis
of these patients and the scheme would come into effect from
January 18, Sreemathi told reporters here.
A financial assistance of Rs.250 per month would be given
to the below poverty line category where there were mentally
and physically challenged persons, she said.
Another welfare scheme announced was extending Rs.250
financial aid per month to unwed mothers among scheduled
castes and scheduled tribes. The scheme would start next
month, she added.
