Jaipur: Terming the victory in the just
concluded civic bodies' poll in Rajasthan as 'historic', Chief
Minister Ashok Gehlot today attributed the win to policies of
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia
Gandhi.
"Despite prevailing difficult conditions, people reposed
faith in common men's government of Congress and its good
governance," Gehlot said in a statement here.
Gehlot said the state government's historic decision of
direct voting for the post of Mayor, Chairperson and Head in
municipal corporation, municipal councils and municipal
boards respectively, and fifty per cent reservation for women
helped to boost enthusiasm of voters.
PCC president and Union Minister for Rural Development
and Panchayati Raj Dr CP Joshi said that it was the victory of
Congress's policies adding, "It is clear that the public is
satisfied with the works being done by the ruling Congress
government here."
BJP's state unit president Arun Chaturvedi said, "The
party performed very well securing over 500 out of 1,612 total
wards, which maintains our previous tally."
"Since the BJP is in Opposition, the ruling Congress
had an edge on Mayor and Chairman posts," he said adding that
the Councillors will provide an effective opposition and
address public needs in respective civic bodies.
