Siliguri: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha
fighting for a separate state of Gorkhaland today resumed its
agitation by putting up road blocks in the three hill
sub-divisions of Darjeeling district.
The roadblock, which would be put up for two hours from
1200 to 1400 hours daily, would continue till the West Bengal
government announced its decision to start a political
dialogue on Gorkhaland as decided in the fourth round of
tripartite talks in Darjeeling on December 21 last year, GJM
general secretary Roshan Giri said.
Giri said over phone that as per the terms of
December 21 talks, political level talks on the issue were
supposed to start in 45 days which would expire on February 6.
"We do not find any initiative from the West Bengal
government to fulfill the commitment. It appears very
difficult for us to control the hill people who are ready for
any sacrifice to meet their only demand for Gorkhaland," he
said.
Asked if GNLF supremo Subash Ghising was making an entry
into hill politics again, as it is evident that Gorkhaland
would not occur by March, 2010 as promised by GJM chief Bimal
Gurung, Giri said, "Ghising was a closed chapter. He has been
ousted from power and driven out from the hills."
