Karnal: The Haryana Government is committed
to make the State an education hub, Chief Minister Bhupinder
Singh Hooda said on Sunday.
Speaking in the 'Old Boys Meet-2009' at Sainik School,
Kunjpura here, in which Army chief, General Deepak Kapoor also
participated, Hooda said the State Government was already
implementing reforms in all the three tiers of education--
primary, secondary and higher education and also in technical
education to enable the students to compete globally.
"New industry-oriented courses are being added to help them
get employment in the changing scenario. Private universities
are also being set up in the State to provide quality
education to the youth," said Hooda, who is also a product of
the Kunjpura School.
He said with a view to bringing world class education and
research institution in the State, Rajiv Gandhi Education City
was being set up at Kundli near Delhi while Bhagat Singh Women
University had also been set up in Sonepat district.
"Haryana is a small State, but it is a matter of pride
that every 10th soldier in defence forces of the country hails
from our State," he said.
The Chief Minister announced to give a grant of Rs 21
lakh for the all round development of the Kunjpura school. New
dormitories would also be constructed in the school, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, General Deepak Kapoor, who also
has been a student of Sainik School, Kunjpura, praised the
outstanding achievements of the school.
General Kapoor said that under the guidance of the able
principal and the staff, the school would not only maintain
its high standards but also create new benchmarks and emerge
as the best educational institutions of its kind in the
country.
The Army Chief said that it was a happy combination of old
and existing students of the school.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid wreath at Sai Kunj War
Hero's Memorial.
Hooda and the General honored a number of 'Kunj stars' who
have left their marks in the various fields of life by giving
them mementos and commendation certificates.
Hemant Sharma, President Old Boys Association honoured
Hooda and General Kapoor by giving them a coat each.
General Kapoor was also honored by the Old Boys Association
with a Tropy which he returned to the school.
