Srinagar: Asking people to ignore "vested interests" bent upon to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir, a minister has said his government will not tolerate human rights violations in the state.

"Our government is fully aware of fulfilling its responsibilities and human rights violations will in no case be tolerated," State Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said, addressing yesterday a public meeting at Kupwara district's Langate, 90 kms from here.

Referring to the killing of 16-year-old Zahid Farooq and the arrest of a BSF constable in the case, he said any excesses will be investigated in a transparent manner.

"Those involved in the killing of Zahid were arrested in a record time and would be punished as per the law," he said, adding that "some vested interests are out to disrupt peace in JK".

Rather also favoured autonomy for the state.
