Gandhinagar: Congress today accused the state
government of "promoting certain industrialists" and being
"hand in glove" with them.
Leader of opposition in the assembly Shaktisinh Gohil,
while speaking on the thanks giving motion on the Governor's
speech, said the budget provided neither "vision nor
direction" to the state.
"This government is working for some industrialists, who
are getting everything on a platter," Gohil said, alleging
that 49 per cent equity was sold without bids in the
state-owned Gujarat Pipavav Power Company (GPPC) to a
nondescript Swan Energy.
"By selling the 49 percent equity for just Rs 381 crore
and also assigning 70 per cent carbon credit to Swan Energy,
the government has given benefits of over Rs 12,000 crore to
Swan Energy," he alleged.
He also attacked the government for granting coastal
lands to build power plant in Mundra which, according to him,
has displaced thousands of fishermen in the surrounding
villages.
