New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila
Dikshit on Friday sought to justify the recent hike in water, bus
and electricity rates saying for development activities, the
government needs money.
"Unless you (people) pay what the government is doing,
the government will not be able to do what it is doing for the
country," she said.
"We need money for infrastructural development in Delhi
and we will get it from people," the Chief Minister told a
seminar on 'GST and Direct Taxes Code' here.
Advocating a clear and clean tax regime, she said, "We
need to simplify our taxation procedure."
Welcoming the move to introduce GST and direct taxes code
in the country, she hoped that the system would be a success.
