Shimla: A Congress legislator in Himachal
Pradesh on Sunday declared his assets and liabilities before the
media and appealed other MLAs to follow suit.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, a three-time MLA from Nadaun in
Hamirpur district, held a press conference here during which
he gave the details of the properties held by him.
Sukhu, who is also the state Congress vice president,
said he had recently approached HP Assembly to include details
of his properties on its website but the plea was turned down
on the ground that there was no such provision.
"I will bring a private member bill in the ensuing budget
Session of the Assembly for making such a provision," he told
reporters.
The former state Youth Congress president said he would
make a request to the party to ask all its MLAs to declare
their properties on party website "to promote transparency,
morality and honestly in public life".
In a statement, containing details of his properties, the
MLA claimed he has assets worth Rs 1.57 crore by way of houses
and ancestral and personal land in Shimla, Baddi and his native
place Nadaun, and that his liabilities amount to Rs 62.20 lakh
by way of bank loans.
