Raipur: A lawyer associated with a human
rights organisation here has alleged Bijapur police of beating
and holding him up for whole night.
Eldin Toppo working for Human Right Law Network has
alleged that while he was working for his organisation in
Bastar on December 10, the Bijapur police asked the domestic
help of an Ashram, where Toppo was putting up, Kopa Kunjam to
accompany them.
Toppo said being a lawyer and human rights activist he
too left with the police and Kunjam to Dantewada police
station. However, in midway police told them that they were
being taken to Bijapur police station instead of Dantewada.
When both of us protested, policemen thrashed us and took
us to Bhairamgarh police station where they beat us again and
held us up till next morning, he said.
Meanwhile, Bijapur police have denied any such incident.
Additional superintendent of police of Bijapur district,
B P Rajbhanu said that Kunjam was wanted to police in
connection with a kidnap and murder case and they took him to
Bhairamgarh police station for interrogation purpose.
