Jaipur: A private company has lodged an FIR
with the Rajasthan Police against IOC officials for their
alleged negligence causing deaths even as fire billowed from
two petrol tanks on the sixth day of the devastating fire at
Sitapur near here.
A case under section 304 A of the IPC was lodged by Genus
Overseas Pvt Ltd (Electronic and Instrument) Manager P S
Khurana with the Sanganer Sadar police station, the IGP-I B L
Soni said.
The inferno has so far claimed 12 lives, he said.
About a dozen complaints have been lodged against IOC by
victims' relatives and private companies, the IGP said, adding
the SHO Sadar Police has been asked to take up the cases for
investigation.
Two IOC tanks, from which smoke was emanating, have about
6 feet and 10 feet of petrol to burn and this could be over by
tomorrow, Chief Fire Officer Ishwarlal Jat told agency.
Residents living in the five-km periphery of the IOC
depot have been complaining of itching, skin allergies,
suffocation and burning of eyes, and scores of them reported
to hospitals in the last two days, official sources said.
When contacted, Rajasthan Health Minister A A Khan said
eye and skin experts have been mobilised in villages near the
fire site.
He also refuted reports of death being caused by harmful
gases.
