Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has offered a participatory role for people in the schemes being implemented for conservation of the state's natural resources.

Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmed, while addressing a series of meetings during his two-day visit to Rajouri and Poonch districts, said the government is keen to involve people in conservation schemes to preserve natural, cultural and historical heritages of the state, a press release said here today.

He said a massive developmental programme has been launched across the state for creating adequate social infrastructure with the aim of promoting economic activities.

During his tour, Ahmed launched an afforestation drive at Rajouri's Limberi village and announced that two lakh saplings of various species, having cash value of Rs 30 lakh would be provided to rural areas of the district on nominal prices.

Ahmed said saplings of trees like Bamboo and Amala would be provided to people under Social Forestry Scheme so that they could also get handsome dividends, besides contributing in adding to the forest cover of the area.
