Jammu: Noisy scenes and uproar marred the
proceedings of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Thursday when
opposition BJP and Panthers Party (JKNPP) protested over lathi
charge on lawyers by police.
Led by BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta, BJP and JKNPP
members stood up from their benches and demanded explanation
from the government over "brutal" cane charge on lawyers
yesterday who were protesting against introduction of
Permanent Resident (disqualification) bill in Legislative
Council.
The members alleged that government was using police
as a tool against those protesting against the bill.
"Lawyers were beaten up, injured in brutal police
cane charge when they were peacefully protesting against the
introduction of the bill by a PDP member in the council on
March 8".
"The bill is discriminatory to women. While we want to
give more powers under 33 percent reservation to women across
the country but in JK we want to snatch their rights", Gupta
told reporters.
Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone intervened and pacified
them.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education Peerzada
Mohammad Sayeed informed the assembly that Dogri language has
been introduced in 4,678 schools of the state after its
inclusion in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
