Jammu: Government offices in Jammu and Kashmir were on Wednesday partially hit by the five-day long employees strike announced by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) demanding increase in retirement age among others.

"The strike has been partial as has affected 40 to 50 per cent of the working of the government offices in the state", senior officials said as the strike entered its second day today and is scheduled to end on Saturday.

The strike has affected work at various hospitals, education institutes, government offices and Public Service Undertakings (PSUs) in the state.

The strike has been called by the JCC to demand release of Pay Commission Arrears, increase in retirement age, enhancement of wages of daily rated, temporary, adhoc and contractual employees, enhancement of 20 percent house rent allowance, removal of pay anomalies and conversion of COLA into DA.

Two leaders - Mohmmad Ashraf and Bhopinder Singh, who announced fast untill death, were shifted by the police from the venue to hospital, they said.

"We will take out a massive rally on March 13. If the Government fails to respond to this strike, employees would be forced to announce indefinite strike in J&K", JCC leader Abdul Qayoom told reporters here today.
