Agartala: The ruling Left Front in Tripura would field Jharna Paul, the chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board, as their candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections, party sources said on Saturday.

Paul had relinquished the post of chairperson of the board yesterday and told reporters that she would file her nomination for Rajya Sabha on March 15.

Paul is also the state committee member of the Ganatantrik Nari Samity, the women wing of CPI-M.

In the sixty-member Tripura Assembly, the strength of the Left Front is 49.

There is only one seat for Rajya Sabha from Tripura.
