Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress is
preparing a list of policemen allegedly siding with the ruling
CPI(M) in West Bengal and remaining mute spectators to
violence witnessed frequently during college union elections
in the state.
"The (assembly) elections in the state may be held
within six months to one one year or it may take place within
three months and we are preparing a list of policemen who are
siding with the CPI-M. The people will not put up with
flatterers of CPI-M," Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee
told a Bengali news channel here today.
"The CPI-M is afraid of the new generation. They don't
want contest in college elections. That is why they are
using outsiders to prevent opposition party candidates from
filing nominations," she said on the violence.
Stating that her party wanted the police to act in a
neutral way, she said at many places they remained 'helpless
spectators'.
Banerjee said that her party wanted democratic
elections and acceptance of the verdict of the people.
WBPCC working president Pradip Bhattacharya told
reporters that the violence would be taken up with union
ministers P Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee.
"Earlier, the CPI-M used to win the college elections
by force and now when students are protesting they are
unleashing violence," he alleged.
