Haridwar: The Aahwan and Agni 'Akharas' have
agreed to take a dip along with Joona Akhara during the
Mahakumbh, ending their six-year-long dispute that began in
2004 Ujjain Kumbh.
Announcing this, Secretary of Joona Akhara Mahant Hari
Giri said all the three Akharas would take a dip together and
now there was no dispute among them.
An agreement to this effect was reached yesterday after a
series of meetings among them in the presence of Tourism
Minister and Haridwar local MLA Madan Kaushik and mela
administration officials.
Aahwan and Agni Akharas are considered as subordinate
akharas under Joona Akhara but during 2004 Ujjain Kumbh these
Akharas asked the mela administration to allot separate time
for them for bathing announcing their separation from Joona.
The move of two Akharas enraged the 'sadhus' belonging to
the Joona Akhara, who asked the mela administration not to
allow them to take a dip. Later, the akharas moved the High
Court, which authorised mela officials to take the decision on
the matter.
However, Mela officials decided not to allot time to
these akharas for bathing and since then they were being
deprived of taking bath during the Kumbh Mela.
