Aurangabad: Maharashtra Minister of state
for food and civil supplies, Abdul Sattar engaged in a
brawl with a party activist during a meeting Sunday.
The minister had come to attend a meeting held to forge
an alliance between Congress, NCP and Pragati Aghadi, launched
by Shiv Sena rebel independent MLA Pradeep Jaiswal, for
Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections scheduled on
April 11.
The activists of all the three parties, who were also
present in the meeting, created a ruckus at the seat sharing
formula and one of the attendees, who claimed to be a Congress
activist, engaged in verbal duel with Abdul Sattar.
The man, identified as Mohammed Nisar, was first
assaulted by Abdul Sattar's PA and later by the minister.
Abdul Sattar, who was elected on Congress ticket from
Sillod assembly constituency, later told reporters that Nisar
is not a party activist and he did not know him.
"I do not know the man either. He is not a Congress
activist and I am going to lodge a police complaint against
him," Sattar said.
The meeting was attended by Aurangabad district's
guardian minister Radha Kishan Vikhe-Patil, Maharashtra
Minister for Heavy Industries Rajendra Darda, Jaiswal and NCP
leader Munaf Hakim. It was resolved in the meeting that
Congress would contest on 53 seats, NCP would get 30 seats and
Pragati Aghadi would contest 16 seats in municipal elections.
