Nagpur: Bowing to pressure from members
cutting across party lines, the Maharashtra government today
assured the legislative assembly that it would consider
uniformity in electricity tariff in Mumbai on par with Delhi
pattern.
Replying to Subhash Desai (Sena) and others during
question hour over rise in power tariff by Reliance Power in
Mumbai, Energy Minister Ajit Pawar assured the House of
studying the Delhi pattern.
The members contended that increase in power bills of
Reliance was unjustified and there should be one rate for the
entire metropolis.
Earlier Pawar had said four companies including Reliance,
Tata and BEST are supplying power to Mumbai and the tariff is
different due to different source of power generation.
Tata is producing power through Hydro which is the
cheapest one, while others are producing power through thermal
and gas. So the rates can not remain the same, he said.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Regulation Commission
(MERC) had stayed the increased rates of Reliance Power from
July 15 following a directive from the Maharashtra government.
