Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata
Banerjee today said she is firm on holding a rally at Jhargram
in West Midnapore district tomorrow despite a boycott call by
PCPA.
"We are not cowards that we will be afraid of threats.
Unlike CPI(M) I do not need their support to win elections. I
will go ahead with my meeting. They will not allow me to
enter? They will fire at me? I am ready," Banerjee told
reporters.
Stating that she was against people moving around with
arms, she said "the Union Home minister has already said that
he wanted talks with Maoists, but they should first lay down
arms. They can talk with the Home minister. They need not talk
to me. There should be an end to bloodshed and killings,"
Banerjee said.
She said she wanted to work for the development of
tribals. "It was me who said in 1992 that poor tribals live on
ants, but none had believed me then."
The Left Front, she alleged, was responsible for the
situation in Maoist-hit Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore
districts.
