Tirunelveli: The Tamil Nadu government has
made it mandatory for inspectors of police stations to visit
the scene of crime or any other violent incident immediately
on receipt of complaints, Director General of Police Lathika
Charan said on Saturday.
The DGP, who reviewed the law and order situation at
Tuticorin and Tirunelveli, said immediate investigation would
give a better picture about the incident or complaints and
also create confidence among the public about the department.
"We can even know whether the complaint is real or bogus by
an immediate visit to the spot.We can gather more information.
The source of information also will be intact," she said.
The Inspectors had been asked to prepare a list of history
sheeters and anti-social elements in their area and closely
monitor them. The crimes reported in each station would be
graded according to their nature(Serious.. ordinary.. violent
etc) to provide better policing to areas where violent crimes
are committed, she said.
The DGP assured that witnesses to violent crimes would be
provided better protection so that they are not intimidated by
the Criminal elements.
She said 17 persons had so far been arrested in connection
with the murder of SI Vetrivel in Tirunelveli district, and two
more were absconding.
