Hyderabad: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today directed the Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police to submit a report before in connection to a petition filed by the mother of a top naxalite leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad, expressing fear that he might have been killed.

Karuna, the mother of Rajkumar, who is a politburo member of CPI-Maoist, in her petition to the Commission alleged that her son was nabbed by the Andhra Pradesh Police in a joint operation by Maharashtra Police on March 11, and since then he was not yet produced before any court.

She feared that Rajkumar who was allegedly under the custody of AP Police may also be "killed" like two top Maoists Shakamuri Apparao and Kondal Reddy, who were shot dead in separate encounters with personnel of the special police in Prakasam and Warangal districts on March 12.

"The custody of Rajkumar is illegal confinement," Karuna alleged.

Responding to the petition, the APSHRC Chairman B Subhashan Reddy directed the Andhra Pradesh DGP R R Girish Kumar to submit a report by March 22.
