Berhampur: Maoist posters and
banners asking people to support the ongoing Orissa bandh
called by the Naxals and boycott tomorrow's Republic Day
celebrations were today found in villages of Ganjam district.
The posters and banners were found in several bordering
villages of Ganjam-Gajapati, Ganjam-Kandhamal and
Ganjam-Nayagarh, police said.
Moreover, a bomb disposal squad rushed to Malasapadar
village, about 7 km from sub-divisional town Bhanjanagar
apprehending some bombs planted by the Maoists.
But no bomb was found there, SP (Ganjam) Nitinjit
Singh said.
The Maoists have called for a two-day Orissa bandh
beginning today demanding unconditional release of Subhashree
Panda, wife of the top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda and
three of her associates who have been arrested.
The impact of the bandh was visible in Ganjam district
with inter-district passenger buses and other vehicles going
off the roads.
While private bus owners did not ply their buses
apprehending any untoward incident, the state-owned Orissa
State Road Transport Corporation suspended its several long
route buses.
