New Delhi: The CPI(M) on Monday charged the
Maoists with continuing their "depredations" in Orissa, saying
a tribal leader, who also led a mine workers' union there, was
kidnapped by the extremists this morning.
"The Maoist depredations in the area (Sundargarh
district) continue. Their armed gangs this morning have
kidnapped another tribal leader working in the CITU-affiliated
mine workers union threatening the workers to leave the
union," the CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement here.
The party pointed out that its popular tribal leader,
Ananda Masi Horo, who was abducted by Maoists on January 22
with the police claiming he had been killed, was found alive
in an unconscious state by local people.
"The earlier report given by the police that he had been
killed was erroneous," the Politburo statement said.
A report from Rourkela quoting the police said the
35-year-old Horo was today released by the ultras after
holding him hostage for three days. The abducted CPI(M)
leader, party's Sundargarh district council member, returned
to his house at Raxi village in the early hours.
Anand along with Harinath Mundari and his younger brother
Narendra was abducted from Raxi and Jamudih under K Balang
police station, 120 km from Rourkela, on the night of January
22 by Maoists who suspected them to be police informers. The
Mundari brothers were set free on Saturday night.
