Midnapore: Suspected Maoists today shot
dead a CPI(M) leader's father and chopped off his mother's
left hand in West Midnapore district, besides killing another
CPI(M) worker and setting fire to a party zonal committee
member's house, police said.
The ultras attacked the house of local CPI(M) leader
Mihir Hembram at Dadra village. They faced resistance from
Mihir's father Sridam Hembram, a retired policeman, and his
mother while Mihir managed to flee, they said.
The Maoists then dragged Sridam outside the house,
hacked him and shot him dead. They also chopped off the left
hand of Mihir's mother. She has been admitted to Jhargram
sub-divisional hospital in a critical condition, police said.
In the other incident, CPI(M) worker Nishikanta Bera was
beaten to death by Maoists at Bahara village.
Bera had left CPI and joined CPI(M) sometime back.
The Maoists backed People's Committee against Police
Atrocities also set fire to the house of Manik Jana, a member
of CPI(M)'s Jhargram zonal committee, they said.
Jana, however, was not present when his house in
Radhanagar village was torched.
Meanwhile, PCPA spokesman Asit Mahto threatened to dig
up highways, torch buses, stop train movements and destroy
government properties if two of their members, detained by the
police, were not freed.
