Kolkata: The CPI (Maoist) today opposed tomorrow's meeting between Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Chief Ministers of four eastern states to formulate a strategy to combat Maoists, saying such meetings are only aimed at "killing more innocent people".

"The massive joint operations will only kill more people, but will surely help expand areas of armed resistance in India," party's central committee leader, Surya, said in a statement here from an undisclosed destination.

He alleged that the joint operations against Maoists had received "blessings from Uncle Sam (US), MNCs and feudal landholders".

"FDIs and FIIs need a Maoist-free India for loot and domination. The Salwa Judum in Chhatisgarh has emptied 644 villages and killed many hundreds to pave the way for land acquisitions by corporate houses," he said.

In Jangalmahal in West Bengal, he alleged, the joint forces and CPI(M)'s armed gangs have unleashed a reign of terror in the interest of corporate houses for mining of natural resources and land acquisitions.

He claimed West Bengal government has now sanctioned another Rs 27 crore for raising a special armed force in the districts where adivasis are resisting state terror.

Some Maoist sympathisers calling themselves 'Citizens of West Bengal' would observe a 'Black Day' tomorrow in protest against what it says "war against the poorest of poor in India".
