Ranchi: Eight persons, including four
senior government officials, were kidnapped and later released
by suspected Maoists in similar incidents in Jharkhand on Saturday.
DGP control room sources said here four government
officials, including an additional collector, went
to Palahia area of Latehar district to supervise works
done under the NREGA when they were kidnapped by suspected
Naxalites but released hours after.
The four were Additional Collector Shravan Sai,
Executive Engineer S Bhengra, the officer in the dairy
department A K Sinha and an Assistant Engineer, whose name was
not available.
In a similar incident, a supervisor and three
labourers were today set free in Gumla, a day after they
were abducted by Naxaltes in neighbouring Simdega district.
The Superintendent of Police, Gumla, N K Singh said
the Naxalites set them free near Bansdih village following
intensive pressure owing to police raids.
"Two additional police companies are raiding the
areas and under intense pressure the Naxalites set free all
the four today," Singh said. Twelve abductors were behind the
incident.
The supervisor and labourers were yesterday were
forcibly taken away from Dobhaya village in Simdega, where
they were building Ramrekha dam.
