New Delhi: With the city preparing to host the Commonwealth Games next year, Mayor Kanwar Sain today suggested that all industrial units in the city should suspend their activities for a period of one month prior to the event to cut down on pollution.

The Mayor said he is sending a request to the Delhi government in this regard and if it gets the green signal, he will be inviting major industrialists to chalk out a plan.

Those who agree to suspend their activities for a period of a month should be given tax rebate by the Delhi government while the workers should be allowed to work longer hours after the Games so that they can make up for the monetary losses through overtime payments, he said.

"We have suggested that they be given rebates in their electricity and water bills as well as the various taxes to compensate their loss of wages during that period," he said.

Sain said during the Beijing Olympics last year, all polluting factories were shut down for a period of nine weeks to clear the smog during the mega sporting event.

"Everyone needs to make an effort to make the Games a success. I am sure the Delhi government will agree to the proposal," he said.

we are too late for proposals. if a decision has to be taken, there should be no more delay because decisions taken at last by force may not be necessarily useful or add a star to our country`s respect.
