New Delhi: The MCD on Sunday claimed the house
tax in Delhi is "one of the lowest" in the country and that
the tax liabilities have decreased substantially from April
2004, while appealing to the citizens to avail the benefits of
its property tax amnesty scheme.
The civic body cautioned that the MCD is in the process
of matching the details obtained from Survey of India, which
had conducted a door-to-door survey, and then issue notice to
tax defaulters in the city.
The ongoing Amnesty Scheme 2009-10, providing waiver of
full penalty and full interest amount on clearance of
up-to-date payment of property tax by defaulters, will remain
operative till December 31 this year, it said.
Issuing a public notice to attract property tax owners
outside the tax net to clear their dues, the civic agency
claimed that the house tax in Delhi "is one of the lowest" in
the country.
"Further, the house tax paid is deductible while paying
Income Tax on income from house property," it noted.
The MCD also insisted that from April 1, 2004, after the
introduction of the unit area method for property tax, tax
liabilities have "decreased substantially".
"MCD will charge the property tax for the period of
2004-05 onwards even if the property is built prior to 2004 in
respect of properties which are not in the tax net," it said.
