Hyderabad: City police on Tuesday arrested the Managing Director of the hospital, where a fire broke out earlier this month here.

Panjagutta police arrested Managing Director of Park Super-speciality Hospital, C Damodar Reddy in connection with the fire that broke out on February one, claiming three lives.

Reddy was produced before a local court for judicial remand, but, was released on bail, a police officer said.

He was booked for offences under Sections 304A (causing death by negligence) 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC, he said.

A major fire broke out in the five-storeyed 'Park Super-speciality Hospital' in Somajiguda here, claiming the lives of an elderly patient and two nurses reportedly due to asphyxiation, and injured eight others who jumped after flames engulfed the building.

The Fire Department personnel observed that no fire safety measures were adopted in the building.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation also sealed the "unauthorised" fifth-floor and directed the owner/occupier not to use the premises till unauthorised and deviated portions were removed and necessary occupancy certificate is obtained from the Municipal Commissioner.

At least now the government or GHMC should wake up and use their good offices to check all big complex and theaters whether they abide the rules of fire station department and try to implement strictly. Or else it should be given to a private department to check all apartments, hospitals, shopping complex, schools and bring to the notice of the government to take stern action who are following the rules. Ex fire safety officers or experts should recommend to the govt about the safety norms.
