Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government today
assured the state assembly that all measures were being taken
to check naxal activities which is evident from the latest
arrests made by the STF from different parts of the state.
Replying to the adjournment notice moved by Radhey
Mohan Agarwal (BJP) on the issue, parliamentary affairs
minister Lalji Verma said government was giving special
attention to the serious problem of naxalism.
"The intelligence units are being strengthened
besides striking a coordination with other states facing naxal
problem and it is a result of this that no big naxal strike
has taken place since 2004," Verma said.
Efforts are also on for the all round development of
the naxal infested areas and to bring the people there in the
mainstream as that is the only way to bring an end to this
menace, the minister said adding that community policing was
also underway.
Earlier, Agarwal expressed serious concern over the
arrest of naxalites in the past couple of days from areas
other than those identifed as naxal infested in the state.
"Arrests have been made from Gorakhpur, Allahabad and
Kanpur which are not identified as naxal infested besides the
ADG police, Brij Lal has also stated that naxal activities
were on the rise in Azamgarh, Deoria, Ghazipur and Ballia
though as per the government records only three districts of
the state namely Sonebhadra, Mirzapur and Chandauli are
infested by the menace," he said.
