New Delhi: The Board of Directors of Delhi
Metro met here today and discussed the progress of the new age
transport system's Phase-II, especially the country's first
standard guage metro tracks on the Inderlok-Mundka line which
is to be inaugurated by the end of this month.
The Board met at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation office
here and discussed the progress of Phase-II, the deadline for
which is the October Commonwealth Games.
The meeting comes just days before the 15.1 Inderlok-
Mundka line is thrown open to the public.
DMRC chief E Sreedharan had on Saturday inspected the
line and gave go-ahead for the Metro to ask the Commissioner
of Metro Rail Safety to come and inspect the line for his
green signal.
"The progress of projects were reviewed at the meeting.
The budget for the next financial year was also discussed at
the meeting," Urban Development Secretary M Ramachandran, who
is also the DMRC Chairman, said.
The Inderlok-Mundka line, the first Standard Guage Metro
line in the country, will be inaugurated by the end of March
as planned. All other Metro lines opened so far have been on
broad gauge. This will make the Delhi Metro probably the only
Metro in the world which will operate on both standard gauge
and broad gauge in the same city.
Phase-II is crucial for the DMRC as it will add another
121.17 kms to its fast-expanding network.
DMRC expects that at least 2.5 lakh commuters will be
added to Metro's expanding network in Delhi by the end of 2010
with the opening of the Mundka-Inderlok line.
