New Delhi: Google India on Thursday said it has partnered with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to provide information about train schedules, routes and fares.

Google Transit, a new feature on Google Maps, will provide users information like the various Metro routes, average time for transit and fare.

"Apart from driving instructions for destinations, we have added the public transit option, which includes the Metro for Delhi. Going ahead, we would like to include other modes of public transport like buses and trains as well," Google India Product Manager (Google Maps and Local) Manik Gupta said.

The company offers similar service in Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad as well.

Google Transit is available across 500 cities globally across the US, Canada, Central and South America, Asia, Europe, Oceania and Africa.

"With the Commonwealth Games in mind, we are sure this product would help commuters with the public transportation system," Gupta said.

The product would also be available on mobile handsets, which is witnessing a huge uptake for Google Maps, Gupta said.
