Imphal: Assam Rifles personnel unearthed a camp of Naga militants in interior Tamenglong district of Manipur and arrested a militant, police said on Tuesday.

On a tip off about movement of ultras, Assam Rifles personnel attached to Red Shield division of 59th Mountain brigade launched a massive manhunt at New Chingkao area on Saturday.

During the search operation on hill areas of New Chingkao, security forces unearthed a camp of NSCN-K and Naga Nationalist Council (NNC) where training centre, dug-out areas for hiding and shelters were set up.

A militant identified as Kabipou Rongmei was arrested.

The security personnel also recovered combat dresses, clothing items, incriminating documents and some photographs of leaders of the two militant outfits. The camp was jointly used by the NSCN-K and NNC.

The camp was later burnt down and most of the material recovered from the spot destroyed.
